Rehabilitation is a Partnership

At Nebraska Orthotic & Prosthetic Services (NOPS), we understand that rehabilitation is a partnership where physician, orthotist/prosthetist, therapist, and patient are united in the shared effort of overcoming a disability.

Each member of the team plays a vital role in helping a person with a physical disability achieve any number of goals including: independence, self-reliance, mobility, and participation.

Once the physician has diagnosed the condition and prescribed treatment, the orthotist or prosthetist provides the most appropriate device to assist the patient’s missing or impaired limb or muscle/skeletal system. Often, a therapist will guide the patient’s physical conditioning and strength training. And the patient helps set and achieve recovery goals. In some cases, success is achieved in weeks or months and the patient is restored to full function. Frequently, however, the nature of the disability requires years, or even a lifetime spent coping with a condition.
